Charter was received on January 21, 1936.
George enlisted in the Army age 25 years, 9 months, 57 days, on June 5, 1917 in Berlin, Green Lake County, Wisconsin.
Private Thompson's unit was Company C, 128th Infantry, 32 Division. A.E.F. (American Expeditionary Force) went overseas on February 21, 1918 and stationed in France.
Five months after arriving U.S. Army units and the U.S. Marine Corps joined forces with the French and became known as the Franco-American offensive, which included the American 34rd, 28th and 32nd Division of Infantry.
The Anise-Marne Operation of July 18-August 6, 1916 became known as "The Battle of Chateau-Thierry" of France.
Private Thompson was killed in action on August 1, 1918.

A new Era Started on October 19, 2019
On Aril 26th 1950, Sonny joined the U.S. Army. He attended Radio School at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. After Radio School he was deployed to Okinawa, Japan, where he worked ship-to-shore using International Morse Code, as a means of secure communication. He volunteered for Korean service and was assigned to the First Calvary Division, attaining the rank of Corporal.

On October 19, 2019 we held a "Renaming Ceremony". For 83 years the Legion was named "George Thompson American Legion Post 395".
On February 27, 2019 Sonny passed away. He was a 51 year member of Post 395, lived in Kingston and was very active in the Legion and Community.
In April a fellow Legion member and Past Post Commander, Master Chief Petty Officer, Deep Sea Diver, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Naval Parachutist and Jump Master, U.S. Navy, Retired John R. "Jack" Meyers held an election at a Legion Meeting to have the name changed from "George Thompson to Duwane "Sonny" Walker. Jack received a new charter and the Ceremony planning had begun.
On February 27, 2019 Sonny passed away. He was a 51 year member of Post 395, lived in Kingston and was very active in the Legion and Community.

On October 19, 2019 an hour before the "Renaming Ceremony" Jack Meyers was laid to rest with Full Military Honors at the Kingston Cemetery, just a short distant from Sonny. Two Bald Eagles flew over head during the whole time, like two friends coming back to visit and making sure it was done right.
